Idaho Mountain Outfitting 07 Bear Report
Well, 2007 was a pretty good season,
starting with the Nelsons. Josh was the first
to notch his tag on a nice cinnamon about 5' 7"
squared--first evening of the hunt, to boot. One
shot through the heart with an arrow sealed the
deal. A couple of days later, Jeremy had an eventful
evening. He arrowed a nice black which we decided
not to track until daylight. Good thing, too.
We trailed him all the way to the bottom when
the trailed turned very fresh. Just then Stacey
heard something ahead, so we snuck closer to find
Jeremy's bear 30 feet up a tree. I kiddingly noted
to Stacey that she didn't even bay. Jeremy was
able to knock this bear down. It turned out to
be a 5' 8" sow. That evening was eventful
at all stands with both Jack and Jordan having
a little excitement.
The next week, Greg and Brian decided
to shoot their bears on the same evening, which
made for some work. Very proud of Stacey, once
again--by the time I got back to her she was packing
the last of Greg's bear out of the woods. Greg's
bear squared 6 foot, while Brian one- upped him
at 6' 2". Both nice boars, and both black.
Seemed to be the theme this year. Next Bobby took
a nice bear. When I dropped Bobby off, I told
him he had better have a hat full of Morel Mushrooms
and a dead bear when I returned. He didn't disappoint.
The spring hunt ended with 7 baits still getting
hammered up until the last day.
The fall hunt was pretty good, as
well. Shane and Tim started the shooting, both
taking nice bears. Shane, though, had the most
excitement yet on stand. A nice 6x6 bull visited
him one evening during archery season, nonetheless.
Also, a lot of action with numerous bears running
all around him. One evening I came to get him
from his stand, and he told me to be careful.
I looked up and there was about a 5 footer popping
it's teeth at me. A big brown had just run him
up moments before I arrived.
Don took another nice bear. This year Don brought
out a Thomson 12 gauge. The bear didn't go far.
Don's friend, Mark, also took a nice black to
end the season.
I included a couple of trail pictures to show
what will still be in the game next season. Not
sure why so many blacks this year. Last year it
was more colored than black. Flip a coin, it should
hit heads or tails 50% of the time, right? Anyway,
thank you all for a great season! We look forward
to 2008, and are anticipating much more fun.
